Character or just a character? Trump & Hilary

Character or just a character?  Trump versus Hilary

Trump and Hilary
Character or just a character?

“Trump  is egotistical, bombastic, and brash. He often lacks nuance in his statements.

Trump
Trump often lacks nuance: “Crooked Hilary!”

Sometimes Trump  blurts out mistaken ideas (such as bombing the families of terrorists) that he later must abandon. Trump  insults people. He can be vindictive when people attack him. He has been slow to disown and rebuke the wrongful words and actions of some angry fringe supporters.  Trump  has been married three times and claims to have been unfaithful in his marriages.

These are certainly flaws, but I don’t think they are disqualifying flaws in this election. So says Gruden in Christianity Today.

Grudem concedes that while Trump’s character is problematic, he concludes that the billionaire is “a good candidate with flaws” because “most of the policies he supports are those that will do the most good for the nation.”

Trump isn’t the only candidate whose reputation has taken a hit because of moral transgression

Hillary Clinton has also been rebuffed for her character.  Most recently  for using her own personal email server, rather than the State Department’s, when sending classified emails as Secretary of State.

Hilary’s actions ultimately resulted  in both FBI and State Department investigations.  Did she show motive to hide?   Hilary’s personal email server was in her basement.

“Our views on the role of government—whether it’s there primarily to protect people or “keep the peace,” plays a significant role in the priority we give character when judging candidates, says Messiah College historian John Fea.

“If you believe that government has the responsibility to promote the common good and general welfare and moral good of the society and it’s ordained by God to do that, then for me, I would probably want someone with character and is interested in those questions at least,” he said.

Fea joined Morgan Lee and guest host Amy Jackson to discuss how Americans have historically voted on character in previous elections, how the mass media has changed the country’s understanding of a candidate’s moral failures, and when, if ever, the ends justify the means.

Poor Hilary

The Guardian

America’s glaring income inequality is certain to be a central bone of contention in the 2016 presidential election. But with her huge personal wealth, how could Clinton possibly hope to be credible on this issue when people see her as part of the problem, not its solution?

“But they don’t see me as part of the problem,” she protests, “because we pay ordinary income tax, unlike a lot of people who are truly well off, not to name names; and we’ve done it through dint of hard work.”

Bengazi & Hilary: It DOES matter say protesters

Bengazi protesters & Hilary face off in San Diego
Bengazi & Hilary: protesters & Hilary face off in San Diego

Bengazi & Hilary:  It DOES matter and they are intertwined.

Ambassador Stevens and three others including Sean Smith died at Bengazi.  Hilary Clinton, Secretary of State, blamed Bengazi on a video.  And remember the Sunday AM talk shows and U.N. Ambassador Rice claiming the same story? That it was a video that caused Bengazi was the administraton’s story for several weeks.

And now protesters are holding Hilary Clinton accountable.  Not willing to face protesters she stayed away from San Diego.

Time to prepare more protests in more towns in San Diego?  I think so.

SAN DIEGO – Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was only present at a health care convention in San Diego via satellite, but it was enough to draw at least 70 protesters on Friday.

“We don’t want Hillary Clinton in San Diego in any form,” said Jan Iverson with the group The Difference Matters.

Protesters said the truth about the attack in Benghazi, Libya — in which four Americans were killed — has yet to be uncovered.

Pat Smith of Clairemont, whose only son Sean was one of the four Americans killed in the Sept. 11, 2012, attack, has been especially vocal.

“I was promised answers, and to this day I don’t have any, and I want them before I die,” said Smith.

Smith told the 70 or so who assembled outside of the San Diego Convention Center that she had recently been diagnosed with multiple cancers.

“Her decisions killed my son because she did not provide security,” said Smith.

Republicans in Congress, especially House Speaker John Boehner, continue to blast the Obama administration, saying, “They owe the four families the truth and they haven’t been truthful.”

Howard McKeon, the Republican Chair of the House Armed Services Committee, said Thursday he’s now satisfied there was nothing more the military could have done and that “any further probes are not warranted.”

Marines units are now staged as a fast attack force in the region, something that wasn’t done in 2012.

It has not been a good week for Clinton. In an appearance at a convention in Las Vegas, a woman threw a shoe at her. It missed, and the woman was arrested.
