Cannot tell rioters from press in Portland [what to do?]

Protesters disguised themselves as members of the press and harassed officers during Wednesday night’s demonstrations in Portland, the city’s police bureau said.

Several people who had labeled themselves as “press” threw eggs, rocks, and shined lasers into the eyes of police officers, the Portland police bureau said in a Thursday press release. The protesters continued to interfere with officers . as they tried to disperse the crowd.

“Since several people with ‘press’ affixed to them continued to interfere with officers performing their lawful duties, a public address announcement was made which closed Southeast 106th Avenue from Southeast Washington Street to Southeast Cherry Blossom Street to all people including members of the press,” the news release said.

Protesters threw glass bottles, heavy rocks, and other objects at police.  Where are the grownups?

behold the Jerry Nadler myth [who says no riots in Portland]

An Associated Press (AP) reporter watched several U.S. Marshal agents sustain wounds as thousands sparred with police during the journalist’s stay at a federal courthouse in Portland  over the 7/25/2000 weekend.

An estimated 4,000 people converged on Portland’s Mark O. Hatfield Federal Courthouse, and demonstrators made their presence known by hurling concrete and launching fireworks from behind the massive fence that stood between them and federal agents, according to an AP report.

On Sunday the fence surrounding the courthouse was breached by protesters.

AP reporter Mike Balsamo was inside the building during the siege and watched a total of six agents sustain injuries, including one who was bloodied after taking a direct hit from a firework, he reported.  Not reporting what’s actually going on in Portland has gone on for some time.

Firenze Sage: Cops feared Antifa, not Nazis in Charlottesville riots

ANTIFA fears:  A new bombshell independent report.  The report  highlights the failures of the Charlottesville Police Department during the white nationalist “Unite the Right” rally in August 2017.  The report  claims that law enforcement on the scene feared direct attacks from far-left extremists  — from ANTIFA –  and that this may have even led to their refusal to intervene in the chaotic riot.

The report was drafted by a former U.S. attorney hired by the city of Charlottesville, Va., Timothy Heapy, through his law firm.

According to the report, the authors “spoke to multiple officers at all levels who expressed concern that normal arrest procedures would put officers in harm’s way.

In the week before August 12, the Virginia Fusion Center shared credible threats that members of Antifa would bring soda cans filled with cement and might attack police. Then, on the morning of August 12, rumors circulated among CPD that Antifa might attack officers with fentanyl.

The apparent threat of violence against police from Antifa reportedly led officers to avoid direct confrontation in the ensuing melee.

As the report notes, a variety of orders were given by a multitude of different law enforcement officers to avoid breaking up fights between the Unite the Right rally attendees and counter-protesters.

For example, “Lieutenant Brian O’Donnell, commander of Zone 3 (1stStreet) instructed his officers to avoid engaging attendees over ‘every little thing.’”

Furthermore, “Sergeant Robert Haney described the instructions he received as ‘do not interrupt mutual combat’ unless someone is seriously injured,” the report alleges.

The report noted Lieutenant McKean “told [the authors of the report] that he was ‘not sending guys out there and getting them hurt.’

The report concludes that the police strategy was therefore to “rather than engage the crowd and prevent fights, the CPD plan was to declare the event  unlawful and disperse the crowd.

The Antifa movement is a conglomeration of autonomous, self-styled anti-fascist groups in the United States.[2][3][4] The principal feature of antifa groups is their opposition to fascism through the use of direct action.[5] They engage in militant protest tactics, which has included property damage and physical violence.[2][6][7][8] They tend to be anti-government and anti-capitalist[9] and they are predominantly far-left and militant left,[10][5] which includes anarchists, communists and socialists.[11][12][13][14] Their stated focus is on fighting far-right and white supremacist ideologies directly, rather than on encouraging pro-left policy.[5]

Firenze Sage comments:    Don’t expect anyone to apologize for calling Trump nuts for saying it was mutual combat.
