Ethnic cleansing in South Sudan aided by Obama’s child soldiers?

child-soldierPresident Barack Obama announced in Oct. 2015  that four countries that use child soldiers — the Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria, Somalia, and South Sudan – will continue to receive United States military assistance.

What to do about Southern Sudan where  as of Dec. 2016 ethnic cleansing takes its toil on the country’s  60+ different ethnic groups?

Use the power of the purse:  For starters,  the U.S. Congress could stop payment immediately for child soldiers used by both  South Sudan’s President Kiir and the rebels lead by Machar.

In 2015,  Obama sent  161 MILLION  in  military aid  to African countries which use  child soldiers.

Obama has  but does not use a powerful tool at his disposal – the Child Soldiers Prevention Act – that allows him to withhold US military aid until governments end their exploitation of children in war.

Child soldiers in South Sudan —  paid by Obama — fight  on both sides, for Preident  Kiir’s government and also for the rebel forces.

A much better way to spend US taxpayer money:  teach literacy via radio to South  Sudanese children.  This project is paid for by U.S. Agency for International Development.

Various churches including the Episcopal Church seek action to prevent further deriorationin South Sudan.  Roughly a third of all South Sudanese are Episcopalian.  children-learn-via-aid-money-bbb
