Tom Hogan, a member of the parish, spoke at Resurrection Church 3/23/2000 on Why Now and How the Remodel of Markey Community Center will proceed. Tom Hogan is on the Steering Committee guiding the remodel effort. He detailed the necessary safety issues which must be addressed.
The hub for Resurrection Church — their community center — requires extensive changes to make it safe for volunteers, staff and the persons served. Resurrection Church provides many ministries to youth, seniors and vulnerable persons.
One vulnerable person served: Many non-profit organizations including Boy Scouts use the Community Center to provides services used by the Aptosian community. Click Here for a brief video of a Boy Scout project located on Resurrection’s grounds which, when the video was taken, provides temporary shelter for a homeless person.
Why is the proposed remodel of Resurrection Church’s community center so expensive? Safety is the prime reason for the expensive remodel: the expected cost $5.5 MILLION.
Safety issues: Resurrection Church’s community center is a 55 year old building, separate from the church proper, which has asbestos in the walls and ceiling and paint with lead in it on the walls. The building floods on occasion due to stormy weather. Recently, a large tree fell one corner of Markey Community Center, disabling the Center for a few days and ‘yellow tagging’ Resurrection Church’s children’s playground which is currently not safe to use. Volunteers and staff need to be able to exit safely should there be an emergency such a as a dangerous person confronting them. them. Federal OSHA law requires exit routes be mantaotry. The ceiling requires a sprinkler system. The bathrooms need to meet health codes and must be safe for persons in wheel chairs.
Resurrection Church has THE PLAN which it has been following to gather the necessary money needed prior to start of construction. For information on Resurrection Church’s website click HERE for the Resurrection Catholic Church 2020 Campaign.
Identify prospects who can make large Leader Gifts. So far, parishioners have given large and smaller gifts totaling $1 MILLION of the $5.5 needed. About 1/2 the Goal towards Leader Gifts has been met.
Identify prospects for Foundation Grants. This is ongoing. As of 3/15/2000 no Foundations have said Yes.
Identify prospects for Community (business) Gifts.

In response to the coronavirus pandemic Resurrection Church was required by the Diocese to cancel the meeting for Volunteers scheduled for today 3/14/2000. Also, the Church was required to cancel various fundraisers including Sunday Icecream Social and Eat, Drink and Give.
Resurrection Church’s grounds include places for repose, places to sit and enjoy the beauty of the setting. One such spot I call Art from the Heart located in front of the Handicapped Parking. Click Here for a brief video of Art from the Heart.
Overkill reactions n to the corona virus? Are you hoarding toilet paper? Hiding toilet paper in your safe? Come on now ….
Roughly 40 persons in the USA have died from the Corona virus, about half who died are in one nursing home in Seattle, Washington.
The most vulnerable to succumb to the virus are older persons over 60 with respiratory issues and chronic illnesses. Roughly half of those who have died are from one facility in Seattle, WA.
One local Santa Cruz MD predicts that one MILLION persons in the USA alone will die from the virus. Based on what facts? That’s an overkill reaction.
What does make sense to do:
regularly and frequently wipe down using disinfectant wipes those surfaces people frequently touch (door knobs, church pews, tables, railings)
regularly and frequently wash hands 20 seconds with soap and water
practice ‘social distancing’ so less exposed to coughs
stay home when sick or think you are getting sick
The stock market plunged down to levels where there are good stocks to buy. One area to consider are consumer goods companies which produce disinfectant wipes. For example, Clorox wipes are made by a CA company with 8,000 employees. Clorox is a a subsidiary of Proctor and Gamble. So — why not invest in America’s need for more disinfectant wipes to keep surfaces clean? The Motley Fool recommended buying Proctor and Gamble today 3/12/2000.
Author Dr. David Schneider, an orthopedic surgeon from Colorado, explained how with socialized medicine, wait times for care “are disastrous.” In Canada, the wait time to see a specialist is two years, and then another two years to get the procedure.
“People in this country would go crazy if you were told you had to wait four months,” he said.
Then he explained how Princess Diana would be alive today, if not for socialized medicine. “Princess Diana was in the car accident in France,” he explained. “They actually don’t have any trauma specialists in France.”
“For the first hour after that accident, she was still in that tunnel,” he continued. “And after an hour, they took her to a nearby hospital and she was alive for another three hours and they couldn’t control the bleeding from her pulmonary artery.”
Schneider explained that “there were no trauma-trained people there.
Major face lift and expansion for Resurrection Church’s MARKEY Community Center coming soon? 5 1/2 million needed before construction begins. One million raised so far. MARKEY needs money.
Where is it? Resurrection Church’s MARKEY Community Center is located in the heart of Aptos, CA. Across from the library with shopping centers on two sides, Due to it’s locaation in Aptos, MARKEY Community Cenrer plays a central role in the life of Aptosia aka Aptos, CA and surrounding areas.
What is MARKEY Community Center (MCC)? It’s where voters go to cast their ballot. It’s the hub for Resurrection Catholic Community, where they live out their Christian faith with programs for Youth, Seniors and vulnerable persons needing showers, socks, food and clothing. Families who cannot pay their electric bill go for help. Families celebrate the lives of their loved ones and the marriages of their children.
Start date for construction? Resurrection’s MARKEY CC planned to start construction last August. But the Catholic Diocese changed the rules of the game and said that all money had to be raised before breaking ground. Opps!

James Ryan, the university’s president, posted a statement on Facebook explaining that there were concerns about firing weapons on school property in light of recent school shootings.
He said there were two specific reasons.
“First, to minimize disruptions to classes, given that this event is located at the juncture of four primary academic buildings and is held at a time that classes are in session; and second, recognizing concerns related to firing weapons on the Grounds in light of gun violence that has happened across our nation, especially on school and university campuses,” the president wrote.

Democratic Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren is pledging to crack down on school choice if elected, despite the fact that she sent her own son to an elite private school, publicly available records show.
The 2020 presidential candidate’s public education plan would ban for-profit charter schools — a proposal first backed by Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders — and eliminate government incentives for opening new non-profit charter schools, even though Warren has praised charter schools in the past.
“To keep our traditional public school systems strong, we must resist efforts to divert public funds out of traditional public schools,” Warren stated in her plan.
The Austin Independent School District (ISD) school board approved a radical new sex-education curriculum for grades 3-8 that encourages all kinds of sex at young ages, urges kids to join LGBT “pride” parades, and aims to redefine biological sex and erase the words “mom” and “dad” from children’s vocabulary.
More than 100 people testified against the new curriculum on Monday night, and testimony lasted until after midnight. Yet the school board unanimously approved the new curriculum.
“This vote by the Austin ISD Board sends a clear message: people of faith and traditional moral values are not welcome in Austin ISD,” David Walls, vice president of Texas Values and a parent in Austin ISD, said in a statement. “By passing this curriculum, Austin ISD has broken the sacred trust that parents put in their children’s schools. Austin ISD parents have no reason to entrust their children to a school district that weaponizes education to indoctrinate children into the LGBT political movement.”
In a document revealing the radical nature of the curriculum, Texas Values drew attention to materials for the Grades 3-5 curriculum that encourage children to abandon the terms “mother” and “father” or “mom” and “dad.”
“Use Gender Inclusive Language,” the curriculum advises teachers. “It is important to avoid terms which refer only to ‘male’ and ‘female’ identities when speaking with young children as this can limit their understanding of gender into binaries and can exclude children who may not identify within these identities. For example, when discussing family members or adults they may have in their life, try not to only use terms like ‘mom’ or ‘dad’. Try integrating words like, ‘parents’ or, ‘guardians’ to include children whose parents might not fit into ‘traditional’ concepts of family structures.”
Annrae Angel says why she — not Ari Symons — should get your vote for Santa Cruz County Superior Court Judge in 2020 elections. Egregious conduct by judge Symons running a red light is the issue, says Angel.
Read “the facts” of the Symons case as gathered by the CA state government Commission on Judicial Performance. The Commission meets behind closed doors and allows no questioning of “the facts” before reaching their “conclusions”. Closed door proceedings without input raise multiple red flags for me.
Ari Symons said that she ran the red light. Think of the Simon game many people have played.
Ari Symons clicked the Red and played the game straight. ‘I did it!’ she told people immediately. Symons told co-workers the truth. She ran the red.
When someone says repeatedly that they did it, that they ran the red light and that the moving vehicle violation ticket is their –how can that be a viewed by the watch dog government entity as a ‘cover up’ or considered ‘egregious behavior’?
Rather, overall this appears to be the Democrats in Sacramento targeting an individual. Perhaps it would be better if CA was not run by the Democrats?
Per the “facts” as stated by the Commission, Ari Symons told co-workers that she ran a red light that morning. Some time later Symons wrote letters saying she was the one who ran the red light. Later, things got muddled between spouse Michael and wife Ari. Not every spouse does what the other spouse wants, correct? So says Symons concerning overall handling of the red ticket. Ari Symons made mistakes how the matter was handled. Symons has admitted her mistakes.
Aptos Psychologist: These facts and the others listed by the Commission for Judicial Performance don’t add up to “egregious conduct” by Ari Symons.
And, the CA state government should not get away with wrongful behavior. Come on, government Commission for Judicial Performance Do better! Or disband, re-group, and re-fresh your standards. Don’t target individuals. Play the game straight.
This entity. the Commission on Judicial Performance, meets in San Francisco Dec. 4-5, 2019 and Jan 29-30, 2020. Phone: 415 557-1200 FAX 415 557-1266 Three members of the Commission — Nishimura, Capozzi and Torres — can be replaced immediately as they have exceeded the number of years they can serve.
Tell our state government to add new members to the Commission on Judicial Performance who will act honestly and with integrity. Make sense?
