How stay safe?  More and more Americans lack confidence that the police will protect them.  Women are buying guns. Forty percent of first time buyers this year are women.
Black-Americans are buying guns.  As a demographic group, Black-Americans bought the most guns – up 58.2% for the first six months of this year.
This July the FBI performed the third highest number of background checks on record.   In July alone, 1 .8 million guns were sold. [Go WSJ, Voting With Their Guns]
What’s going on? Look what people see on television night after night.  Large cities burning. These cities have been run by Democrats for years and years.  When liberal and progresses won’t control crime, more Americans buy guns in self-defense. Imagine that — women arming themselves. Not just with pepper spray anymore.Â
Tom Hogan, a member of the parish, spoke at Resurrection Church 3/23/2000 on Why Now and How the Remodel of Markey Community Center will proceed. Tom Hogan is on the Steering Committee guiding the remodel effort. He detailed the necessary safety issues which must be addressed.
The hub for Resurrection Church — their community center — requires extensive changes to make it safe for volunteers, staff and the persons served. Resurrection Church provides many ministries to youth, seniors and vulnerable persons.
One vulnerable person served: Many non-profit organizations including Boy Scouts use the Community Center to provides services used by the Aptosian community. Click Here for a brief video of a Boy Scout project located on Resurrection’s grounds which, when the video was taken, provides temporary shelter for a homeless person.
Why is the proposed remodel of Resurrection Church’s community center so expensive?  Safety is the prime reason for the expensive remodel: the expected cost  $5.5 MILLION.
Safety issues:  Resurrection Church’s community center is a 55 year old building, separate from the church proper, which has asbestos in the walls and ceiling and paint with lead in it on the walls. The building floods on occasion due to stormy weather. Recently, a large tree fell one corner of Markey Community Center, disabling the Center for a few days and ‘yellow tagging’ Resurrection Church’s children’s playground which is currently not safe to use.  Volunteers and staff need to be able to exit safely should there be an emergency such a as a dangerous person confronting them. them. Federal OSHA law requires exit routes be mantaotry. The ceiling requires a sprinkler system. The bathrooms need to meet health codes and must be safe for persons in wheel chairs.

Identify prospects who can make large Leader Gifts.  So far, parishioners have given large and smaller gifts totaling $1 MILLION of the $5.5 needed. About 1/2 the Goal towards Leader Gifts has been met. Â
 Identify prospects for Foundation Grants. This is ongoing. As of 3/15/2000 no Foundations have said Yes.
Identify prospects for Community (business) Gifts.

In response to the coronavirus pandemic Resurrection Church was required by the Diocese to cancel  the meeting for Volunteers scheduled for today 3/14/2000.  Also, the Church was required to cancel various fundraisers including Sunday Icecream Social and Eat, Drink and Give.

Remember Kate Steinley shot in the back and  killed  in the sanctuary city of San Francisco by  five time deported illegal felon Lopez, a Mexican natonal  with multiple  convictions?
The man who murdered  Kate Steinley  was released from  jail  by the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department and not turned over to federal authorities.
A recent Harvard-Harris Poll shows  that 80 percent  of voters say  that local authorities should comply with the law by reporting to federal agents the illegal immigrants they come in contact with.
Cities that arrest illegal immigrants for crimes should be required to turn them over to federal authorities
Sanctuary cities receive $2.27 BILLION in federal programs.
A safety issue:  Trump re-framed the issue from a partisan battle to a duty owed to the American people: “When it comes to public safety, there is no place for politics; no Republicans, no Democrats, just citizens, and good citizens,†he said. “We want safe communities. We demand safe communities for everyone.â€Â Voters will want to know why their mayor sides with the illegal alien killer over a victimized American family.
About 300 sanctuary city jurisdictions operate in the U.S. where state or local officials refuse to cooperate with federal law enforcement officers and make it difficult for them to apprehend illegal aliens caught committing a crime.
Santa Cruz CA is a sanctuary city. Law enforcement officials in Santa Cruz claim that the community is safer by not reporting illegal immigrants to federal authorities. Recently 13 members of  M-13 gang were arrested in Santa Cruz by federal  authorities in cooperation with local authorities.
The Trump plan includes an expansion of the “287(g) program†— named for the section of federal immigration law that enables DHS to deputize state and local law-enforcement officers to enforce the laws as if they were federal immigration agents.

 New jobs:  Trump’s plan calls for adding resources:  10,000  to federal enforcement (ICE)  and 5,000 Border Patrol persons.
The many freedoms Americans enjoy  are dependent upon laws which are enforced.  Let’s take good care of legal, honest immigrants and let’s crack down on felons such as the man who murdered Kate Steinley.  What say you?
